MII: Spring Festival SMS To Reach 17B Messages
The Ministry of Information Industry (MII) estimates that 17 billion SMS messages were sent during the Spring Festival holiday (February 6-12) for a total of RMB1.7 billion in revenue generated by Chinese mobile operators including China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, 941.HK) and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU, 762.HK, 600050.SH), reports Beijing Business Today. Mobile users are generally charged RMB0.1 per SMS message. During the same period last year, Chinese users sent 15.2 billion SMS messages.
