Verizon Business is offering enterprise customers the benefits of virtualization -- added flexibility, improved efficiencies and controlled IT costs -- while reducing the complexity of this next-generation technology.

Virtualization allows business to consolidate multiple IT resources, such as operating systems and software applications, on a single server. With Verizon Business' new managed virtualization service, businesses can seamlessly provide applications to users with the same reliability as the traditional one-application-to-a-server model.

Verizon Business virtualization service, backed by service level agreements (SLAs) of up to 99.9 percent for availability and uptime, is immediately available in the United States through the company's state-of-the- art managed hosting facilities.

"Verizon Business is all about empowering our customers," said Michael Marcellin, vice president of product marketing for Verizon Business. "With our newest virtualization option, customers can run leaner and meaner, while out- tasking the management of these complex environments. What's more, this offering can even help companies to be 'greener,' which is a big plus in today's eco-friendly business environment."

The launch of this new service follows three years of supporting VMware ESX Server, the world's leading virtualization solution, in a staging and development environment. Today Verizon Business is deploying a shared VMware Virtual Center management infrastructure to configure and operate this virtualized environment, enabling customers to take advantage of Verizon Business' expertise and best practices in managing this technology.

Use of this service can also reduce the need for customers to purchase additional software and hardware when deploying new applications.

Companies today are turning to virtualization to harness more flexibility and efficiency from their IT applications. According to industry analyst research, virtualization is fast becoming a mainstream technology and is poised to experience solid growth in the coming years.

Fully managed by Verizon Business, all hosts and virtual machines come complete with security, backup, monitoring, reporting and administrative support. This includes 24 x 7 help desk support, as well as anytime access to the Web-based customer portal. Customers can also tap into the complete VMware Infrastructure product suite, which includes VMware VMotion, VMware High Availability and VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler.

Verizon Business virtualization service joins the company's comprehensive portfolio of IT and hosting solutions that deliver complete, end-to-end, integrated IT and network solutions. From simple colocation to full IT applications management, Verizon Business serves as a true extension of a customer's IT organization. Services include Data Center Colocation, Remote Backup and Restore, Hosted Messaging and Instant Messaging, IT Service Desk, Akamai Services, IP Application Hosting and Remote IP Application Management.
