MII: Winter Telecom Loss Exceeds 1B RMB
The Ministry of Information Industry's (MII) latest estimates for snow-related telecom industry losses have reached RMB1.1 billion, while RMB580 million has been invested in disaster management, reports Sina. Through February, China saw 16,000 mobile telecom base outages and 150,000 damaged fixed communication poles that led to the deployment of the equivalent of 800,000 workers and 330,000 emergency repair vehicles, said the report. Approximately 1.3 billion weather-related public service announcements were sent out via SMS during the period, according to the report. The MII estimated telecom industry losses of RMB150 million after experiencing 16,000 mobile telecom base outages and 46,000 damaged fixed communication poles through January 30.
