[it pro portal] The Scottish Parliament has approved a grant of £200,000 for Clackmannanshire Council to help Scottish rural areas gain access to high speed broadband services.
According to ISP Review, the grant has been provided under the Scottish Government’s “Rural Broadband Challenge Fund”, which aims to provide high speed wireless broadband solutions throughout the Scottish countryside.
Over the next months the Internet facilities will be made available to communities in Tillcountry, Alva East, Bandeath, Throsk, West and South Alloa, Cambusbarron and will also cover parts of rural south west Stirling.
With the plan taking effect from spring 2011, both businesses and household users should benefit, as residents will be able to access a high speed Internet connection ranging from 2 to 20 Mbps.
Eddie Carrick, portfolio holder for sustainability at Clackmannanshire Council commented: "I'm delighted that our bid has been recognised as a strong one and that we've got the funding to take this forward. Clackmannanshire has a great transport infrastructure that puts it at the centre of Scottish business. Now we can build an electronic infrastructure to match that."
