Improvement in telecom services govt's top priority: Scindia
Stating that improvement in telecom services across the country, including Madhya Pradesh, would be his top priority, Minister of State for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said the Centre would provide Rs 362 crore for expanding the infrastructure in the state.
Talking to reporters after his arrival here for the first time since he became the Union Minister, Scindia said of the total Rs 480 crore sanctioned for strengthening telecom infrastructure, Madhya Pradesh will get Rs 362 crore.
The amount will be used, among other things, to erect 2,790 telecom towers needed by the state, said Scindia, who is MP from Guna in Madhya Pradesh.
The government has decided to set up 9,232 Communication Services Centres (CSCs) - at district, block and panchayat levels - to provide data related to birth, death, employment, land record among others, the Minister said.
The project is expected to be completed in two years. "Our effort is to utilise information technology for the benefit of the people under e-governance project. Field Officers appointed under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme can provide data pertaining to any matter sought by people through the CSC by dialling the District Magistarte, who will order the release of information," he said.
Asked about increasing the number of post offices, the young Minister said "Improvement in services was our first priority."
"As far as opening new post offices was concerned, the decision is taken on number of people needing the facility. There should be at least 3,000 customers for a post office to be set up," he explained.
