Benin - Glo mobile sales of SIM cards

Glo Benin Sold 600,000 SIMs in 10 Days

GloMobile Benin has sold 600,000 SIMs (Subscriber Identification Module) in fewer than 10 days following its launch in Benin Republic.

Customer traffic has been brisk at dealers' shops and Glo retail outlets as people subscribe to the network's services, according to sources at parent company Globacom.

Company sources also noted that the current growth is "unprecedented" and demonstrates that GloMobile Benin is well-equipped to contribute to Globacom's vision of building the largest network in Africa.

In a pre-launch presentation, Glo management announced the Glo Per Second Billing platform, for which the caller pays for airtime used. Also revealed were Glo's new value added services -- MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), Glo Magic Plus news and information, vehicle tracking, musical ring-back tones and mobile banking.

Glo launched in Benin on June 5 with a promise by Chairman Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. to change the telecommunication landscape in the country.
