Vodafone Acquires Majority Stake of Ghana Telecom
The Vodafone Group said it had agreed to acquire a 70 percent stake in Ghana Telecom, the African country’s third-largest mobile phone operator, for $900 million. Vodafone, based in Britain, said the government of Ghana would retain a 30 percent stake in Ghana Telecom “Ghana is one of the most attractive markets in Africa with mobile subscribers growing at more than 55 percent (per annum) and mobile penetration around 35 percent,” Vodafone’s chief executive, Arun Sarin, said in a statement.
