Public Telecom Fund established
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has established a VND1 trillion (USD62.5 million) Public Telecom Fund and assigned four telecoms companies, VNPT, Viettel, EVN Telecom and SPT, to implement the programme. According to Deputy Minister Tran Duc Lai, fixed line networks will be installed in 254 currently unserved communes. In addition, around 30% of the total 2,000 communes without public internet service points will gain this service by the end of this year, while 600 public internet service points using dial-up mode will be upgraded to broadband.
