Taiwan - Mobile Number Portability

Taiwan market: Number portability brings in shift of mobile phone numbers topping 4 million

Since Taiwan brought mobile phone number portability (NP) into force in October 2005, the cumulative volume of approved shifts from one telecom carrier to another or upgrades from 2G/2.5G to 3G with the same carrier, as of June 30, stood at 4.331 million, according to the National Communications Commission (NCC).

Of the cumulative volume, about 1.5 million, or 34.6%, was shifts between telecom carries, NCC indicated. Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) saw a net increase in subscribers of more than 200,000, while Far EasTone Telecommunications' (FET's) flow turned from a net loss to a net gain in early 2008. Taiwan Mobile (TWM) continues to see a net decrease due in shifts, NCC noted.
