[teleclick] Bell Canada Enterprises Inc. (BCE) has completed a $142-million acquisition of the half of Virgin Mobile Canada that it did not already own, giving the telecom giant a new advantage in the Canadian wireless market.
“The Virgin Mobile Canada team has built a unique wireless brand with special appeal to young Canadians and a reputation for outstanding service right across the country,” noted BCE chief executive, George Cope. “We look forward to assisting Virgin Mobile Canada in maximizing the network, product, global roaming and distribution advantages that come with being part of the broader Bell organization.”
BCE also closed its $135-million acquisition of The Source, a consumer electronics retailer with 750 outlets across the country. The Source is expected to become a major marketing vehicle for BCE, carrying a wide array of Bell products, including home phone, internet, and digital television services, as well as Bell Mobility and Virgin Mobile cell phones.
