LG plans Kenya mobile phone factory
LG Electronics, the South Korean consumer electronics company, announced on 8 August that it plans to build a mobile handset factory in Kenya.
According to Cellular News, the company will invest KES100m (equivalent to USD1.54m) in the basic assembly facility. It is reported that LG expect local manufacture to reduce the cost of mobile phones sold in the country by around 15%.
The factory, expected to have a production capacity of around one million units per years, will also export to neighbouring countries.
