[wsj] -Telekom Austria AG's (TKA.VI) chief executive officer expects a consolidation wave in the global telecom industry within two years, he told Dow Jones Newswires late Tuesday.
Hannes Ametsreiter said he doesn't rule out that the Austrian incumbent will play an active role in a consolidation process but added that there are no concrete plans.
Besides its home market, Telekom Austria also operates in southeastern Europe, including Serbia and Croatia, as well as in Belarus, and partly competes with Deutsche Telekom AG (DT, DTE.XE), which also has a large footprint in the region.
Ametsreiter said he doesn't consider Telekom Austria to be an acquisition target. "There is no tendency for a full privatization," he said. The Austrian government has a 28.42% stake in the telecom company, based in Vienna.
