Ireland - Opposition to the masts for rural wireless broadband by county councillors

[irish examiner] The roll out of broadband in the North West is facing bad reception in the area.

Leitrim councillors are meeting later to discuss whether to begin a legal challenge to the erection of two broadband masts in the county.

More than 90 locals in the Aughnacashel and Carrigallen areas have objected to the two masts being sited in Leitrim.

They say the masts are within 500 metres of four homes and 300 metres of a group water scheme.

Leitrim County Councillors are holding a special meeting later to discuss whether to mount a legal challenge to An Bord Pleanala's decision to give the masts the green light.

3G, the company behind the masts, has said it is working on behalf of the Government to bring broadband to rural areas.
