[smh] Jamaica has signed a $6.4 million agreement with two telecoms to expand a broadband network across the Caribbean country.
Information Minister Daryl Vaz says the deal with London-based Cable & Wireless Communications and Barbados-based Columbus Communications is a major step toward bringing affordable and reliable Internet service to all high schools, post offices and libraries. Broadband now is largely limited to urban areas.
deal was announced Wednesday.
Cable & Wireless Communications operates in the Caribbean under the trademark Lime, while Columbus Communications operates as Flow.
