Nigeria: Minister announces the Govt is to review telecommunicaitons legislation

[vanguard] Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, yesterday said the Federal Government is determined to review the telecommunication laws in the country.

The Minister stated this yesterday, at the ongoing West and Central Africa Communication congress in Abuja, that there is need to review the present policies on telecommunication which have been on since the year 2000.

The Technical Adviser, Mr. Onuoch Nnachi, to the Minister presented her paper titled, "Examining Policy Developments in Nigeria's telecommunications Market", noted that part of the things that will be reviewed include infrastructural sharing among the telecommunication operators and local content in the telecommunication sector.

According to the Dora, "You will agree with me that telecommunications have changed since 2000. There have been lot of changes in technology, if we enacted the law in 2000 and we are in 2009, change is inevitable".
