Nigeria: Regulator to raise $3.7 million in auctions for 4x20 MHz slots in the 2.3GHz band to four operators

[daily trust] The Nigeria Communication Commission will soon issue licensing for slots on the 2.3 Hz National Frequency to four operating companies at the cost of N5.47 billion.

The commission received over 40 applications for the 4 licenses from 2006 to date the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Engr Ernest Ndukwe has said.

He said each of the four slots has 20 Mhz in the 2.3 GHz frequency band.

The objective of the licensing, Ndukwe said is to make service speedily available to the residents of Nigeria who desire the services.

He said the commission consider the needs for affordable and speedy service provision to customers in determining the cost of the spectrum.

He said the first four companies that pay the fixed price of N1.37 billion each are those eligible to get the licenses, warning that the licences is not for speculators, “ applicants are to note that the spectrum will be granted on a use-it or loose-it basis and any company that is assigned spectrum and does not use it to deploy network within the specified time frame will lose the license and forfeit the fees paid”.
