UK: Vodafone has launched a pre-paid daily mobile Internet rate of 50 pence

[zdnet] Vodafone has launched a deal for its pay-as-you-go customers that gives them a day's internet access on their handsets for 50p.

Rival operators T-Mobile and Orange provide the same sort of access for a daily fee of £1. The operator 3 offers a daily rate of 50p, but that involves ordering a bolt-on that functions for 24 hours from the time of ordering. Vodafone's is a midnight-to-midnight offering.

Vodafone has described its daily rate as "flat-rate", but a call to their press office revealed a cap on that access of just 25MB. A spokesperson for the operator said this would suffice for most PAYG customers, but those going over the limit will automatically be charged 50p for another 25MB.

Still, Vodafone's deal offers better value than O2, which has no daily rate - their PAYG customers either have to get a monthly bolt-on, or pay £3 per megabyte for surfing on their phones.
