Angola - Recommendation for annual investment of USD 750 million to improve services

[angola press] The study of the Angolan telecommunication sector, carried out from 2007 to 2008, recommends mobile network operators to make an annual investment average of USD 750 million in order to improve the services provided to consumers, the director of Inacom, Domingos Pedro, announced this Thursday.

Speaking to ANGOP, the director general of the Angolan Institute of Telecommunication (Inacom) mentioned that before the study, the average investments made totalled USD 250 million per year.

According to Domingos Pedro, at the moment there is a need for another study to assess the investments made accordingly with the recommendations of the aforesaid telecom supervising institution.

In case a reduction in investment trends is observed, another study shall be necessary so as to define the appropriate actions to increase investments by mobile telephoning companies.

He pointed out that these measures would allow mobile phone operators in the country to guarantee the growth of telecommunication services in terms of quality and coverage, as well as citizens' greater access at affordable prices.

The study of the telecommunication and information technology sector was carried out by a company specialised in market research and served as the basis for taking some measures and guiding policies for the field.
