[abc] The Federal Government has dismissed Opposition calls to do a cost-benefit analysis of its proposed $43 billion National Broadband Network (NBN).
The Government has set up a company to build the network in partnership with the private sector.
The Opposition says the Government needs to carry out a thorough assessment of the project before committing taxpayers' money.
But Federal Communications Minister Stephen Conroy says faster broadband is already overdue.
"We don't need any more studies, any more cost benefit analyses to know that this is an infrastructure development this country is crying out for," he said.
