China: decline in fixed lines, but continuing strong growth in mobile, China Telecom adding 1.8 M, China Mobile adding 6.49 M and China Unicom 1.1 M

[JLM Pacific Epoch] China Telecom had 202.1 million fixed-line subscribers at the end of April this year, having lost 1.9 million during the month, while the carrier's broadband subscriber base grew by 720,000 to 47.49 million. China Telecom's mobile user base increased by 1.87 million to 34.71 million users, including CDMA and PHS users, during the reporting period. The operator recorded 32.84 million mobile subscribers by the end of March 2009.

China Mobile added 5.82 million new subscribers in April to reach a total of 482.99 million users. The company added 6.49 million new users in March.

China Unicom added 1.14 million GSM users in April to reach a total of 138.83 million GSM subscribers. The company's broadband users rose by 540,000 to 33.15 million during the month, while fixed-line users lose by 171,000 to 109 million. The company booked 109.17 million fixed-line users, 137.69 million GSM subscribers and 32.61 million broadband users by late March.
