[teleclick] 21.7 million Canadians, or 80% of the country’s residents aged 16 and over, used the internet for personal reasons during 2009, according to a new study by Statistics Canada.
This marks a significant increase from 2007 when just 73% of Canadians were internet users. The biggest growth took place in New Brunswick and Newfoundland where web use increased by 15% between 2007 and 2009.
Overall internet penetration was highest in British Columbia and Alberta with 85% of residents reporting personal web use.
