[cellular news] Vodafone UK has announced that it is dropping the "fair use" clause in its mobile data tariffs and will be setting fixed limits with higher charges for excess usage. In a statement on its own website discussion forums, Vodafone said that the changes were being made in order "protect our network from data abuse".
From the beginning of June, monthly bundle customers will pay £5 for every 500MB after the first 500MB, while customers without a monthly bundle will pay 50p for every 10MB after the first 25MB
Subscribers will receive notifications if their monthly data usage is approaching the limit applied to their tariff.
The company said that it had always reserved the right to change the data tariff billing options and can impose charges for mobile data consumption that went above the fair usage limit.
