[dutchnews] Doubts have arisen about the suitability of Neelie Kroes, the Netherlands' current EU competition commissioner, for the IT and Telecoms portfolio, according to media reports on Friday.
Kroes was grilled by MEPs on Thursday night, and according to Nos tv, Socialist and Christian Democrat MEPs described her performance as weak.
But commentators say the resistance to her appointment is a political move because several Christian Democrats and one Socialist candidate have already been given a rough ride by the European parliament. Kroes is a member of the VVD Liberal party.
Nos tv says the expectation is that some candidates will now get different jobs. 'The horse trading has begun,' one Liberal MEP told the broadcaster.
