[broadband genie] The Government has confirmed the next stage of a scheme which will see free computers and broadband access being offered to low income families across the country.
The £300m Home Access initiative was first announced by Prime Minister, Gordon Brown back in September 2008 with pilot trials successfully completed in two areas in February 2009. Now though, it’s been confirmed 270,000 families in England will be given the opportunity to apply for a grant for a free laptop and broadband connection.
It’s a scheme close to Gordon Brown’s heart. He first hinted low income families could be provided with computers when he was merely a Chancellor back in 1999.
